"Shahrzad is coming to Minneapolis for a weekend of workshops!

Most of Shahrzad’s technique and choreography is influenced from her training in Egypt where she has been mentored by some of the top dancers in the world. She has traveled extensively to do in depth study about the music, dance, and cultural traditions surrounding both so that she can give students a deeper knowledge of the roots of belly dance as well as its modern uses.

Estimated workshop times are Friday 6-8:30, Saturday 11-1:30 and 2:30-5, Show Saturday night, and Sunday 11-1:30.

Exact schedule and workshop topics are still to be determined, and information will be updated closer to the event.  There will be a show Saturday night at the Tek Box Theater featuring workshop participants and multiple performances by Shahrzad.  "

*Classical Choreography / Dance with feeling

The classical Egyptian songs of artists such as Om Kalthoum are some of the most difficult to dance to due to their lush composition and deep emotional meaning. Shahrzad will use one of her detailed choreographies to a classical Egyptian song to show students how to interpret the rhythm, melody, and meaning of the music with their bodies.
